I wanted to do 4 days of posts using a Sale-a-bration product this week. If you haven’t caught on yet, this week I’m featuring the Softly Stippled Designer Paper. This paper coordinates with the Softly Stippled Rose stamp set that I may or may not get before the end of Sale-a-bration. Do you need stamps to make a card?! Not always! Check out today’s sample.
As you can see above, I don’t have any stamping on this card at all! Let me share how I made it.
First, I started with a 3″ strip of Designer Paper. This paper doesn’t necessarily have an up/down or right-side-up pattern, but if it did, the pattern would be facing up and I’d cut a 3″ strip off the side. Then, I turned that 3″ strip and started making 1″ cuts. Each little strip is 3″ x 1″. I originally wanted 3 strips, with an open space 3rd strip down to include or stamp a sentiment. Well, that didn’t work out because I felt like the sentiments from the new stamp sets I have were too “wimpy”. They just didn’t do anything for the card. So, I decided to add a 4th strip, then use a diecut to “tell my story”. That, my friends, is why the 4th strip at the bottom doesn’t truly match the rest of them! No big deal though — I’m pretty sure you might not notice if I hadn’t pointed it out!
I evenly spaced those 4 strips on the Very Vanilla layer, 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″. The easiest way to do that is to lay out your strips so the pattern adjoins, then adhere the top strip evenly top, left and right. Next, move to the bottom strip and repeat, spacing evenly bottom, left and right. Finally, add your 2 middle strips. You’ll be pretty close to even that way!
After I layered these strips, I attached the Very Vanilla layer to a Cajun Craze layer, just 1/4″ larger: 3-1/2″ x 4-3/4″. Attach all layers to another pattern within the Softly Stippled DSP pack. This layer is 4″ x 5-1/4″. Finally, attach to a Pebbled Path card base, 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″. If you ever want to know what to coordinate your DSP with, Stampin’ Up! lists a bunch of coordinating colors on the back of their DSP packages. Sometimes you can pick out other colors, but generally, your work is already done for you! Easy-peasy!
Oh yes, the final touch — I diecut a solid and detailed diecut from Wild Wheat and Cajun Craze using the Stmapin’ Cut & Emboss Machine and the Wanted to Say dies. Check out the product list below if you want to order!
That’s all folks! Stamp or handwrite a message inside on another Very Vanilla CS layer, 4- x 5-1/4″ and your card is ready to send! We all need the Feel Better cards right now! It’s cold and flu season and everyone’s sick!
Stay well friends!
