On my Facebook Live on Tuesday, I featured a fancy-fold card that I made, inspired by a card that Sharon Armstrong shared a few years back.
I made the card using 3 different stamp sets that are carrying over to the new 2021-2022 Annual Catalog. For all of these stamp sets, there are some coordinating designer papers. What that means is that, even though the stamp set carries over, there isn’t a matching paper and the paper is what enamored me to the set to begin with.
I’m not sure what to call this card — a double-fold card maybe?
Let’s talk measurements for this card. The base card is 7″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″. This leaves a 2 3/4″ flap for the front. You’ll also need a piece of cardstock that is 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″, scored on 1 side at 2 3/4″. That is the “over-flap”. The inside card piece is 4″ x 5 1/4″ — stamp whatever snetiment you’d like to use on this piece of cardstock so it’s ready to go for the later steps. *I embossed my inside layer with the dandelion 3D embossing folder that is retiring, and also stamped some grouped dragonflies to the inside. ( may still add a 2 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ Basic White strip to the left (not pictured) so I can add another sentiment and sign my card.
Close the base card (the 2 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ side will be facing up) and add a piece of tear-n-tape to the left flap to hold the ribbon in place. Add a length of ribbon to the paper and feed it out to the left, leaving about 6″ length to the left. Add a 2nd piece of tear-n-tape over the ribbon to secure it. Add the larger and longer piece of designer paper to the card front, covering the ribbon feed.
The next step is to add some tear-n-tape to the scored 1/2″ of the “overflap” — you’ll need to add it to both sides of this 1/2 strip. Remove the protective covering from the top side and attach this cardstock piece to the underside of your card “middle). Now you can attach the card inside to the larger card base (peel off the remaining tear-n-tape protective cover and add additional adhesive) — my Basic White cardstock piece here is inside, and I’ve attached the smaller “overflap” card to the right, under the card middle.
Notice that there is a smaller card attached to the underside of the card inside.
You’ll need 2 pieces of designer paper — I used 2 pieces from the same pack, but 2 different but coordinating patterns. The larger piece is 2 1/2″ x 5 1/4″. The piece for the “overflap” is 3″x 2 1/2″. As above, the 2 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ piece is going to attach over the ribbon for the card base. Next, I will add some tear-n-tape, again repeating the process as above for the card base, but lay a length of ribbon (again, leave about 6″ that will peek out from under the designer paper layer) out to the left of my “overflap”. I know … real technical terms here! Add the tear-n-tape over, then add more adhesive and attach the smaller piece of designer paper. The last step is to decorate your card front (both the card base where I added a few smaller dragonflies, and the “overflap” where I added some decorations).
To decorate this “overflap”, I “stamped off” (the process involves inking up your stamp, stamping it on a piece of scrap paper, then stamping on your cardstock) my “wildflower bunch” image — I used Pear Pizzazz ink to stamp these flowers. Then I used some Night of Navy ink to stamp my sentiment over top of the stamped off flowers. If I had stamped the flowers in full-strength ink, you wouldn’t be able to read the sentiment. I cut it out with a Nested Label die, then cut a larger diecut from Misty Moonlight cardstock to mount my sentiment onto. I punched out a few sprigs from Old Olive cardstock using the Sprig Punch, then attached them below and between the diecuts with dimensionals. The final thing to do was stamp the dragonflies. This led me to a discovery! …
How do you feel about naked dragonflies?! I’m not a fan! I have always had “naked” mini dragonflies, with only the large dragonfly stamped.
I discovered that, if I stamped the large dragonfly of my choice, then punched out the mini dragonfly by lining up the body and the wings, I could have stamped and dressed mini dragonflies as well. Yay! Tell me what you think of THAT tip!!
Let me share the other two cards I made.
This is a Pampered Pets sympathy card I made for a dear friend. The designer paper is the retiring Playful Pets designer paper. I used the retiring dog punch to stamp one of the little hearts, and of course, the matching dies to cut out the dog from the paper.
The inside … I diecut the paw prints for the left side, then added a 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ strip of designer paper to the right side of the card inside.
My last card uses the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set and the Flowers for Every Season designer paper.
I used one of our punches to punch out the sentiment, then added some Just Jade ribbon. Check out my inside below:
The card base is Soft Seafom — I don’t often use this color but it’s a great complement to the Just Jade ribbon. I colored both the inside and front images with the Dark Daffodil blend, the Dark Soft Suede blend, and the light Just Jade blend. The sentiment is from the Here’s a Card stamp set that’s retiring — get it before it’s gone!
