Well, happy July!! You know what that means?! It’s time for some CHRISTMAS in July! I love Christmas, and I heard just recently, July 3rd, that there was only 175 days until Christmas. This is indeed a challenge as there are not many designer papers suitable for Christmas in the new Annual Stampin’ Up! catalog. But… I was up for the challenge and I saw one of the papers from Mosaic Mood as a cable knit pattern. The next challenge was finding a suitable sketch to showcase this paper. I went to my Pinterest account and found a Fancy Fold card in my files: it is called a Step Panel card by Dawn Griffith who posted a video with directions. I’ll include directions in my Card “Recipe” below.
This was such a fun card to make. I used Dashing Deer, a stamp set in the Annual Catalog that carried over from last year. The stamp set has matching dies, so I stamped the deer in Soft Suede ink (I know it looks darker, but it REALLY is Soft Suede). I thought that the flowers cut out of gold glimmer paper looked just like gold stars.
The “card base” is 4 1/4″ x 11″, with a few extra score lines. Then, a second panel is added, making this a stand-up card yet still a fold-flat card!
This is the back of my card — I’m almost thinking that the deer looks a bit “mosaic-like”!
Card “Recipe”
Very Vanilla c/s: 3 3/4″ x 5″
Mosaic Mood Specialty Designer Paper: 2 1/2″ x 3″
Scraps: Very Vanilla c/s, 3″ x 2″; Gold Glimmer Paper, 1″ scrap.
Directions:
Cut and score the paper as outlined above. Add tear n tape to the 1/2″ tabs on both Mint Macaron scored pieces. Attach Soft Suede c/s mat to the large 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ section of the card base — this will be the front of your card. Then, add the large glossy “cable pattern” DSP over the top of the Soft Suede mat. Refer to my “side” picture to see how to attach the 1/2″ tab to the DSP, forming a small box.
*You should check to make sure it folds flat before finally attaching to the DSP. This is the top of the card folded flat.
Attach the smaller 3 3/4″ x 1 3/4″ piece to the 2″ x 4 1/4″ part of the Mint Macaron “card base”.
Now we are going to form the next box and the front of the card with the deer. Apply tear n tape to the 1/2 tab of the 3″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Mint Macaron c/s if you have not yet done so. Attach the 2 3/4″ x 3 1/2″ piece of Soft Suede c/s to the 3″ x 3 1/2″ square of the Mint Macaron piece, then attach the smaller piece of DSP to that. Once again, refer to the photo below.
Attach tear n tape to the back of this square to secure it to the card base DSP. Attach the 1/2″ tab and this piece to the DSP. (If this isn’t clear, look up Dawn Griffith’s video HERE.)
Stamp the deer in Soft Suede ink onto a scrap of Very Vanilla c/s and cut out with coordinating dies and the Big Shot. Stamp the large deer, again in Soft Suede ink, onto the large Very Vanilla c/s piece. Stamp the sentiment in Mint Macaron ink in the center of the Very Vanilla c/s to the right of the deer. Cut out 3 “flowers” from Gold Glimmer paper scrap. Stamp the sentiment in Mint Macaron ink on more Very Vanilla c/s scrap and cut out with the 2nd smallest long and narrow rectangle die and the Big Shot.
