Today I’m featuring the 3rd card in my Mosaic Mood Specialty Designer Paper series. This card is a Double Z-Fold card, and it’s really much easier than it looks. I think I would still consider it a card for the casual crafter — it’s not that difficult, and the “wow” when you give it to somebody will make you smile!
Once again, I’ll have the card recipe below. Let me just show you the card, and a close-up of one of the features.
Isn’t the hummingbird lovely? I was able to cut the hummingbird from the designer paper, hence no need to stamp (since I don’t have the stamp set) and color. I just “chose” my favorite hummingbird (or the one full bird closest to the side of the paper!) and cut it out. I decided to use Daisy Lane as the stamp set featured with this paper as it’s such a great set.
Here is a side-view of the card, open.
The important thing to note is that you’re score lines at 2 3/4″ and 5″ are opposite on the card and the strip at the bottom — in other words, for the card base, the 5 1/2″ section is in the back, and with the strip, the 5 1/2″ length is front and center. This is important so that the card can close without too much bulk.
One last tip I have is regarding the Stitched Rectangle dies. I find myself using these dies a lot! Check out this photo below:
Smile is stamped on a scrap of Very Vanilla c/s and cut out with the small “single” die from the set — I say this because there are two collections within this die set and have alternately larger coordinating dies. There is also one single die, off by itself, that sees a lot of use in my craft room. Next, find a die that is just slightly larger width-wise, although considerably longer length-wise. You will see that I added a #1 and #2 to the photo – this indicates the cutting order. Put the edge of the die to the right of your Soft Suede c/s scrap and run through the big shot, then return the die/paper to the cutting plate to cut out side 2 on the left indicated by the #2. Do you see how this increases the use of your dies, making them much more valuable to you?!
One last word — I stamped the sentiment on a scrap of Very Vanilla c/s and cut out with the Classic Label punch. I ONLY did this to cover up a mistake! I’m not including it in the instructions, but I am pointing out that every mistake is still an option for further embellishment sometime. The sentiment is very thin, and I ended up with a halo around my sentiment when I stamped … so I covered it up!
Card “Recipe” (supply list after)
Mint Macaron c/s: 1 3/4″ x 11″, scored at 2 3/4″ and 5 1/2″
Mosaic Mood specialty DSP, “mint macaron mosaic pattern” , 2″ x 3 3/4″ (2), plus scrap of that strip to cut out hummingbird.
Very Vanilla c/s: 4″ x 5 1/4″
Blushing Bride c/s scrap: 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″
Very Vanilla c/s scraps: 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″, 1 1/2″ x 2″, 2″ x 3″
Soft Suede c/s scrap: 1 3/4″ x 2 3/4″
*card uses the paper cutter and the Big Shot, which are no longer available for order.
Directions:
Cut and score your paper as above. Fold your c/s on the “valley fold” for the 2 3/4″ line, and then with a “mountain fold” (alternate direction) at the 5 1/2″ line as shown in the photo. Cut out the hummingbird of your choice from the back of this designer paper. (I was able to cut my hummingbird and my DSP pieces from one strip of 3 3/4″ DSP.
Next, attach the Soft Suede c/s pieces to the card base, on the 2 3/4″ sections. Attach the DSP pieces over top of the Soft Suede mat. Cutout the Very Vanilla stitched oval, using the 2nd largest stitched die. Cut a coordinating, slightly larger Blushing Bride scallop oval.
Pop the layered ovals onto the outer-most DSP piece as shown in the photo. *I didn’t attach the bottom dimensional under the oval to the DSP, but rather, waited until I had attached the strip of c/s. Stamp the medium daisy 2x in Flirty Flamingo ink and punch out with the Medium Daisy punch (I put both the Daisy Lane stamp set AND the bundle which includes the Medium Daisy punch in the supply list following. ) Pop up the daisy with dimensional in the bottom left corner of the oval. Attach a gold faceted gem to the center of the daisy. Attach the cut-out hummingbird, again popped up, over top of the flower.
Stamp the stem from Daisy Lane in Mint Macaron ink onto the 4: x 5 1/4″ Very Vanilla c/s piece. Make sure you will be able to see the flower after attaching the Mint Macaron c/s strip at the bottom. Once again, refer to the photo. below. Stamp the flower in Calypso Coral ink at the top of the flower. Stamp your sentiment to the side of the flower, again in Calypso Coral ink (and not stamping the “halo” around as I did, making it necessary to “fix”!) Attach the Very Vanilla layer to the card base, making sure that the 5 1/2″ Mint Macaron length is to the right.
Stamp the fern leaves on the scrap of Very Vanilla – *I stamped them it off so the sentiment would be more visible. Next, stamp “smile” in Calypso Coral ink. Cut out with the Big Shot and the single stitched rectangle die, 1 1/4″ x 1 11/16″. Cut a slightly larger rectangle, following my directions above in the card description – cutting it to a final size of 1 3/8″ x 1 15/16″. Attach to the right side of the 5 1/2″ length of the Mint Macaron strip, as shown in the photo. *At this point, you can attach the bottom of the Blushing Bride oval to the Mint Macaron strip. That’s it! Enjoy and/or share your card!
