I struggled to find the perfect Mother’s Day card for my mom. It was right in front of me in the catalog this year!!
I just love the Apron of Love stamp set and finally noticed the sample in the catalog. Did you see it?! It’s bright and cheery and downright LOVELY!! So, I set to work to copy it for my mom!
Here’s my card — if you look in the catalog, you’ll see an almost-identical card. I changed just a few things. Okay, maybe more than a few!!
First of all, I’m not sure if the catalog card uses a stamp or a designer paper. I’m thinking that it’s a designer paper. It looks to me like the Crushed Curry striped DSP from the Tutti-Fruiti 6×6 DSP stack. Well, that yellow was just not bright enough for me!! I used my Brushstroke stamp that’s going to retire on May 31st to make my own DSP!! Yep, I stamped the stripes myself (not QUITE by myself — I used my brand new Stamp-a-ratus for great positioning!!) with Daffodil Delight ink.
Hmm… what else could I do?!
I then decided to showcase a bunch of items that are retiring the end of this month — the Lots of Labels framelit dies, the doily, the Rose Red and Wild Wasabi inks, the Pink Pirouette paper, and the crinkled Berry Burst seam binding. Yikes!! Whatever will I do without these items!!

I have to tell you why I made this card. I know that my favorite color is yellow, and my favorite person on Mother’s Day is definitely my mom!! So, she deserves my favorite color!! I love the apron set because it reminds me of good times growing up — both with my mom AND my dad! My mom always had cookies in a rubbermaid container in our cabinet — we could have 1 chocolate chip cookie a day!! So special! I also remember her baking special sugar cookies for my dad — I used to love licking the bowl after she finished putting the cookie dough on the tray!! Christmas time was like the North Pole in our house — Christmas cookies for sure, but more importantly the Almond Cakes that my parents (that was my dad’s specialty!) made together — Dad mixed the dough and my mom was in charge of greasing the pans, sprinkling the almonds on top, and making sure they came out of the oven at just the right time!! What a team they were … and still are!!
Yes, Mother’s Day is special — special enough to send a very, very special card!! If you want to duplicate this card, I’ll put the “ingredients” below!!
