I never did tell you the story about my journey to Stampin’ Up!‘s Leadership Conference in Orlando last week! I live just north of Boston, which means I was right in the eye of what is affectionately now known as “Storm Juno”, the Blizzard of 2015. I had just finished working 12 hour shifts for the weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), and the storm was forecast for Monday afternoon and evening, with my flight scheduled to leave out of Hartford, CT on Wednesday, 2 days later. My upline, Marilyn, and I chose to “get out of Dodge” early (I think that’s how the saying goes!). I hadn’t finished any of my swaps as I worked 4 of the previous 5 days, so I needed to pack up my stamp room as quickly as possible! I’m known for taking the kitchen sink along with us on trips … just in case! This trip with 6 hours of sleep since Friday morning was no exception!! Marilyn picked me up and we headed to a hotel across from the airport in Hartford. We stamped in the dining area of the hotel and shared with anybody that would listen! A captive audience for sure since there was a travel ban for almost 24 hours!
The fun lasted until we found out that our flight was cancelled. We rescheduled once we could find a flight that both of us could get on, in a timeframe that would get us to Orlando in time for the start of Leadership on Thursday! (There was a 3rd member of our travel group, Angela, who couldn’t get to Hartford when we did. She helped us to find a flight that worked for all of us … but it got snatched up before the Southwest Airlines attendant right before her eyes!) Well, long story short, Marilyn’s daughter was at Sacred Heart University, halfway to NYC, and she drove us into LaGuardia for a flight Wednesday morning. What a champ Emily was! She and her friend, Tiffany, drove the car back up to Hartford Saturday evening so we could get home at the end of our conference!
The story stops there for us, except for Monday’s snow which I discussed in yesterday’s post. Many demonstrators waited days and days to get home because of the Sunday/Monday storm that affected the Midwest and Northeast!
Well … they’re now talking more snow for tomorrow. We’ve had 4 snow-days since last Monday! I wanted to make the snow fun, so I created another snowman card out of punches!
Don’t you love him?! I again used a series of punches, but the real charm lies in the background paper. Do you recognize it?! It’s the new Irresistably Yours brand new Sale-a-bration paper!
There are 6 different patterns in the DSP package, yours free if you place an order from the Annual Catalog or the Spring Occasions catalog of $50 or more. I loved the star pattern, thinking it would look great as a background for my snowbuddy. This paper is white-on-white, embossed, and it does a wonderful job of picking up the color of anything sponged on it, brayered, or in my case, daubed on with the sponge daubers. I used 3 different colors of ink — Soft Sky (barely noticeable), Blushing Bride (for a pink accent), and Marina Mist. As you can see in the photo below, I made snowbanks or hills from a scrap of Whisper White c/s. I then made sure that I held it in place while I added my ink color to the paper.
The “snowballs” are again made of punches, 2 1/2″, 1 3/4″, and 1 3/8″. I used the Bird Builder punch to make the stick arms, and I cut a carrot nose from my Pumpkin Pie scraps. The eye is a Basic Black candy dot. Love them!!
I forgot to take a picture of it, but the inside of the card is stamped with the sentiment, “Do more of what makes you happy” — I love this saying! Stamping makes me happy, and sharing what I’ve stamped makes me VERY HAPPY!
